Send Sprenger to Sacramento
Press Banner, May 30, 2008

I have served in a variety of public and political arenas and here’s what I believe: Barbara Sprenger is the right candidate for the Assembly.

She has been consistently involved in our community, starting at the local level, working toward positive educational opportunity in the San Lorenzo Valley. She understands and acts upon her convictions about what quality education for our children is and why it’s important.

Choose Barbara Sprenger for the 27th Assembly District

Morgan Hill Times, May 30, 2008
Morgan Hill is a textbook case for impartial redistricting. We've been tacked on to an Assembly District that really focuses on the Central Coast. But we have unique challenges that require strong leadership in Sacramento. We have major needs in dealing with flood control, perchlorate issues, education challenges, and equitable tax policy for a small city. Barbara Sprenger, our candidate for Assembly, has worked closely with us here in Morgan Hill. More than any other candidate, she has been here, listening and understanding our issues for almost two years.

Sprenger would be effective leader

Santa Cruz Sentinel, May 29, 2008

I know Barbara Sprenger to be warm, friendly, thoughtful and modest, with a keen and strategic intellect. She has been fearless in Felton's water fight of "David against Goliath" in the belief of the people's right to ownership of their local water resources.

Contested California Democratic Primary Races in June Needed to Increase Turnout and Defeat Prop 98: Sleeper measure could wreak havoc in low turnout election

California Progress Report, February 2008
With no presidential primary on the statewide ballot, voter turnout in June is expected to be abysmal. Which means that Proposition 98 – the extreme right-wing measure to abolish rent control, basic tenant protections, environmental regulations and water laws – could actually pass. But with term limits forcing many state legislators out of office, there will also be a number of competitive June primaries – creating the potential to drive up voter turnout in the state’s more progressive pockets.

The Waiting Game

The Feb. 5 term limits initiative has Santa Cruz and Monterey candidates for Assembly cooling their heels.

Metro Santa Cruz, January 18, 2008

With corporate and union contributors holding their wallets closed until February's vote determines the fate of legislative term limits, candidates for the District 27 Assembly seat are working vigorously to collect as much money as possible from individuals. Most of the candidates say they'll drop out after the February elections if Proposition 93 passes, since it would allow incumbent Assemblyman John Laird to serve up to 12 years in the Assembly instead of having to transfer out after six, as is currently required (if Prop. 93 loses, he'll be termed out). The popular Laird won 76 percent of the vote in the 2006 general election; recalling this, all but one of the candidates have promised to drop out if Prop. 93 becomes law.
