Dear Friends,
I can’t thank you enough for all your support, hard work, encouragement, and thoughtfulness through this whole campaign. Many of us met for the first time, many of us were old friends, but it was wonderful to stand up for real change in California. And we did remarkably well! Although some papers said we would be a distant third, we won in Santa Clara County and came in second in Monterey County!
We can’t stop demanding that our electeds face the problems of our state head-on. We can’t stop telling them that we want solutions not rhetoric.
I’ll be forever grateful for your friendship. We didn’t win, but we made a difference. We made the debate about substance.
And I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

California National Organization of Women endorses
Barbara Sprenger for Assembly
Barbara Sprenger received the endorsement of the California National Organization of Women in her run for the 27th Assembly District seat, currently held by John Laird. The district includes portions of Santa Cruz, Monterey and Santa Clara counties.
"It's a tremendous honor to receive the endorsement and support of California NOW," Sprenger said. "I've committed my life to advancing the rightos of women and girls in California and will continue to be strong advocate for them in the State Legislature."

Burning down our educational system won’t fix California’s budget mess
 
Governor Schwarzenegger’s demand to cut $4.8 billion from education is pouring gasoline on the fire that is threatening our economy. It’s the wrong plan at the wrong time as we face one of the worst state budget crises in recent memory and the very real threat of a recession.
The only way to ensure a bright economic future is to invest in the education of our people:
- A report by California State University demonstrated that every dollar invested in our state university system returns $17 back in the state economy.
- A study by Economic Policy Institute found that California would save $12 for every $1 we invest in a targeted, high quality, publicly funded preschool program – or $8 for every $1 we invest in a similar universal preschool program.
- The Public Policy Institute of California warns that, unless we reverse the current trend that limits access to the education our children need for the jobs of the future, California could face a generation of chronic underemployed — further burdening our social and safety-net programs while depriving the state of tax revenues from high-wage jobs.
